Dracula was one of those books that I pretended to read in high school and then glossed over in college. Dracula's true story involves the passing of his blood line through Mina Harker to her son; a malignant Dr. Van Helsing, who Scotland Yard suspects had a hand in the murders attributed to Jack the Ripper; and the exploits of a 16th-century vampire countess, Dracula's former lover, who cuts a bloody swath through London seeking the survivors of Dracula's last stand in Transylvania. 2014-12-29 · For nearly ninety years, Universal’s Dracula has stood as the first talking horror film, launching the first horror cycle that ended in 1936 with Dracula’s Daughter. A Classic horror novel that has inspired countless writers and film makers. Dracula’s terrifying nature is enough to keep you reading the book as he is exactly what you expect and so much more. Most of the book is filled with the protagonists mourning about their predicament. The best part of the book is undoubtedly Jonathan Harker’s journal (Chapters I – IV) where he is stuck as Dracula’s prisoner in his castle.

And this is where I confess. Dracula isn't one of my favourite books. Stoker narrates the book by use of the diaries and journals of the main characters in a wonderfully learned manner which allows him to leap all over the show, taking the reader on a rollercoaster ride. No Dracula movie has ever done justice to Stokers gothic masterpiece.
